Hi 👋

Welcome to week #3 of the Wrestling Snacks newsletter.

This week's interviewee is someone I grew up with in a small town called Elberta, Utah. We had less than 300 people, and we drove 20 minutes to attend high school in Payson, Utah. Athletically, we competed in the 4A division, which was competitive in the sport of wrestling.

Below are some fun wrestling stats about our tiny little town that’s shared between 10 athletes:

  • 14 State Championships.

  • 24 State Finals appearances.

  • 14 years in a row (1990-2003) an Elberta boy was in the State Finals.

  • 5 of those years overlapped with multiple Elberta boys in the Finals together.

  • 2 Fargo All-Americans.

  • 2 Fila Cadet U.S. Team Members.

  • 5 High School All-Americans.

  • 1 Dave Schultz High School Excellence Award Winner.

  • 8 of these athletes went on to compete at the college level (NJCAA, NAIA, NCAA D2, NCAA D1).

  • 10 Collegiate All-Americans.

  • 2 NJCAA National Finalists.

  • 2 National Championships (NJCAA & NCAA D2).

  • 2 of these athletes won NCAA D1 Conference titles.

  • 3 of these athletes competed at the NCAA D1 National Tournament.

  • 1 of these athletes went out in the blood round at NCAA D1’s and was ranked as high as #5 in NCAA’s D1.

Not too bad for a farming town where the cows roughly outnumber the people 24 to 1.

Now let’s get to the goods 💪.
