How to watch college wrestling, and more...

Hi 👋

Welcome to Week #57 of the Wrestling Snacks Newsletter.

This week, I thought I’d focus on how to watch college wrestling this season. I’ll cover a few of the main media outlets below.

I highly recommend tuning into as many college matches as you can this season. Ultimately, viewership numbers are what drive broadcast growth in a sport. The more people who tune in, the more likely media companies are to broadcast that sport, which leads to greater exposure and a larger following.

If you have an athlete in the sport who hasn’t watched college wrestling before, take some time to sit down with them and watch a few matches. Pick a team to follow and catch a couple of their duals. Studies show that when kids watch the highest level of the sports they participate in, they’re more likely to take a deeper interest and improve, as it gives them a vision of what they can potentially become. So if you love wrestling and want your child to as well, watch wrestling with them and help them become a fan. Through that experience, they’ll take an interest and start making the sport their own.

Let’s GO 💪

News Bites

Snacks

This week's Snacks focuses on how you can watch college wrestling this season:

Where to Start: Find the college wrestling team you want to follow this season and go to their wrestling page. Just Google the college name with “wrestling” at the end (e.g., “UVU Wrestling,” “Iowa Wrestling”), and it should come up. Once you’ve opened the wrestling page, click on “Schedule.” From the schedule page, you’ll be able to see which media outlet will be broadcasting each match. Here are some examples:

If you only want to follow one college team this season, I recommend signing up with the network that will be broadcasting your team the most. If you’re a die-hard fan, you’ll likely need subscriptions to a few different media channels. Keep in mind that some channels may come with TV bundles or cable providers you might already have (e.g., Disney+, Fubo, Dish Network, etc.).

FloWrestling: A great place to begin is with FloWrestling. Flo is essentially the main media company for all things wrestling. While they’re unable to cover all college matches and tournaments due to other media rights, like those held by the Big Ten Network and ESPN, they have a great broadcast schedule this season with plenty of exciting match-ups.

  • FloWrestling's 2024-25 NCAA Division I Wrestling Broadcast Schedule

  • You can get a yearly FloWrestling subscription for $150 HERE

BIG Ten Network: This season, 24 duals will air live on the Big Ten Network and the FOX Sports App. You can watch The BIG Ten Network by signing in with your TV Provider.

B1G+: More than 80 additional matches will be available on B1G+, BTN's subscription service for non-televised events… You can subscribe to B1G+ with an annual pass for $89.99 per year or a monthly pass for $12.99 per month.

  • You can scroll through the B1G+ Event Calendar HERE and see what additional matches they’ll be broadcasting (Be sure to filter by ‘Wrestling’).

ESPN+: Last season (2023-24) ESPN platforms (ESPN, ESPN+, ESPNU, ACCN, ACCNX) featured over 200 college wrestling events/matches. I have not been able to find the exact number of events/matches they’ll broadcast this year but I suspect it’ll be close to the same with the far majority of those broadcasted on ESPN+. You can watch ESPN by signing into the ESPN app with your TV provider but to watch ESPN+ you’ll need an ESPN+ subscription, which comes with the Disney Bundle if you already have that.

  • You can view the live & upcoming NCAA Wrestling Matches HERE

  • Or you can scroll through the calendar and see what’s on the schedule (Be sure to filter by ‘Wrestling’ and ‘All Networks’)

UFC Fight Pass: Last year was the first year that UFC Fight Pass started broadcasting college wrestling matches and they did an excellent job.
